Order until: 18.08.2024 or 25.02.2024
Fresh avocados of the Hass variety from the regions of Gatundu North in Kiambu, Gatanga in Muranga and Kianyaga in Kenya. They come from around 430 family farmers who grow them on an average of 0.8 hectares without artificial irrigation – a rarity in avocado cultivation.
Avocados are among the fruits that continue to ripen after being harvested. You will find instructions on how to ripen the still-hard fruit in your delivery as well as here on this page under storage and shelf life.
Note
In 2024, we are flying in our avocados from Kenya as an exception. The reason for this is that most shipping companies stopped transporting goods via the shipping route from Kenya through the Suez Canal to Europe in the spring. They are afraid of the Yemeni Houthi militia, which attacks merchant ships in the Red Sea. The alternative route around the Cape of Good Hope is too long for the fruit.

How much is that?
3.8 kilos are about 12 to 26 avocados. The number varies depending on the size of the fruit.
Use & preparation
- Fresh avocado on bread with a little lime juice and salt and pepper. A little nut puree rounds off the dish.
- Sweet in a smoothie or make into corn chips as a classic guacamole: Mash ripe avocados with a fork, season with lime juice, salt and pepper.
Storage & shelf life
When stored in the vegetable drawer of your refrigerator at a cool temperature, the fruit keeps for about 10 days. Store the avocados that you would like to eat within the next few days at room temperature in a paper bag together with an apple. If the flesh gives slightly when pressed, the fruit is ripe. Check the avocados for bruises and minor damage as soon as you receive them. If you find mould, remove the affected fruits from the crate.
