Macadamia
Organic
Kenya
Partially broken macadamia nuts. The shell of the macadamia nut is very hard and relatively thick. When the shell is cracked, some nuts will break. In wholesale trade, broken nuts are worth less than whole ones, even though their taste is not affected in any way.
Storage & shelf life
Due to their high fat content, macadamia nuts have a limited shelf life at room temperature. Once opened, store the nuts in a tightly closed container in the fridge or consume them quickly. Make sure that the container is as airtight as possible to prevent moisture from reaching the nuts. You can also freeze them to extend their shelf life by a few months.

LUCY GIKUU NDWIGA
FARMER FROM KIRIGI, EMBU, KENIA
It would be wonderful if everyone switched to organic farming.
"There is sufficient rainfall in our region to keep the soil well hydrated, creating ideal conditions for farming," says Lucy Gikuu Ndwiga. "Still, rainfall remains one of the key challenges in food production." Lucy and her family grow macadamia nuts, avocados, coffee, and bananas. "In my opinion, organic farming is cost-effective, protects the environment, and promotes human health."
