Storage & shelf life
Store nuts and seeds in a cool, dark place in a tightly closed container. Make sure that the container is as airtight as possible so that moisture is kept away from the nuts. You can also freeze nuts and seeds, which will extend their shelf life by several months.
Sustainability & transparency
- Grown by 3031 family farmers on an average of 5.4 ha in the Hauts-Bassins, Sud-Ouest, Cascades and Centre-Ouest Regions in Burkina Faso
- Organic, non-irrigated, manually harvested and sorted, roasted and seasoned in Germany, transport: straight from the farm to Bobo-Dioulasso by lorry, by train to Abidjan, by ship to Rotterdam, 100% of employees working in processing have an employment contract, wages on par with minimum wage or better
- Purchasing from cooperatives and family farmers straight from the farm since 2005
- Potential for improvement: Provide training for family farmers so that they view themselves as business owners, promote innovative farming practices and biodiversity, raise the lowest wages at gebana Burkina Faso

OUATTARA OUO CLEMENTINE
FARMER FROM TOUSSIANA, BURKINA FASO
I prefer organic because chemicals are expensive and not sustainable.
Ouattara Ouo Clementine has around 30 hectares of land, 18 of which she uses to grow her own food. "I grow maize, beans and peanuts. We also have goats, cattle and chickens." For Ouattara Ouo Clementine, providing for her family is a daily challenge. "I have six children, three boys and three girls. They help me in the fields when they're not busy with school or work. I hope they'll all become independent and have a better future than I do."
